2016 was a great year for music. It was hard to narrow it down to 20, but these songs were my favorite songs of the year in no particular order.
1. Vance Joy- Fire and Flood:
This song never gets old, and it’s probably in my top five songs of 2016, luckily I’m in no position to have to create a list of my favorite songs in order, that would be hard!
2. Miike Snow- Genghis Khan
It feels inappropriate when my daughter sings “Don’t want you to get it on with nobody else but me, ” but the song is so catchy I, have learned to ignore her singing. Plus this video is intriguing.
3. Fitz and Tantrums: Handclap-
Sure this song is overplayed, but this song defined my Summer since I listened to it all the time.
4. AWOLNATION- Women Women:
I enjoyed AWOLNATION this year but this was my favorite song, it was always in my head.
5. Lindsey Stirling featuring Andrew McMahon- Something Wild:
I just started listening to this song again, and it’s a light heartened song. I still maintain Lindsey Stirling and Andrew McMahon should collaborate on an album together because they are amazing together.
6. Panic! At The Disco- LA Devotee:
Sure the first 40 seconds of this video are WEIRD but the song is catchy, and Brandon Urie is fantastic between his voice and concert, make sure to see Panic! If you have a chance.
7. Green Day- Bang, Bang:
Overall, I think 2016 sucked regarding a lot of different factors, but the one glimmer for me was new music from some of my favorite pop punk bands. Bang Bang by Green Day is up there in my top 5 favorite songs of 2016. It’s everything I love in a punk song, fast paced, and full of energy. Also, how does Billie Joe Armstrong never age? I need his regimen.
8. Blink182- Bored To Death:
I love the new Blink album, and while this isn’t my favorite song on the cd, it’s still a catchy song and what introduced me to their new sound.
9. Elle King- Bad Girls:
One of the catchiest songs from 2016 in my opinion. I also still cannot believe Elle King’s dad is Rob Schneider.
10. The Lumineers- Cleopatra:
2016 was a year of new music taste for me. I’ve never given bands like the Lumineers and Mumford and Sons a chance and Ophelia by the Lumineers changed my tune towards that genre of music. I now love the chill tunes of these bands. While Ophelia is an amazing song, Cleopatra is my favorite from the Lumineers this year.
11. Megan Trainor- Me Too
This song is catchy and hearing it instantly makes me happy. It makes me want to be friends with her because I love a lyric that says “If I were you, I’d want to be me too.”
12. Strumbellas- Spirits:
This song is always in my head, but the video is a little odd with the creepy clowns and the fish-human? Luckily, I don’t base songs on their videos.
13. Twenty-One Pilots- Heathens:
I would say 2016 was the year for Twenty-One Pilots. Every song they released was a hit, and I love how none of their songs sound the same. This was my favorite song of theirs from last year.
14. Good Charlotte-
Good Charlotte has always been a band I’ve enjoyed and when I found out they were releasing a new cd I was excited. I loved their debut cd and while their sound has evolved I still like their sound. I enjoyed a lot of the songs on the new album, but 40 oz Dream was probably my favorite. It’s a fun song, with great 90s references and I love the video’s take on the show “Last Man On Earth.”
15. Keith Urban- Wasted Time:
This was probably one of my favorite country songs of the year. It’s a perfect Summer song and takes my back to some wonderful memories of growing up and my college years when all I had was wasted time.
16. Carrie Underwood- Dirty Laundry:
I love Carrie Underwood, she’s one of those people I’d love to be for a day because she’s amazing, her voice and look. This video is lackluster to me since the song is powerful, there was more that could have been done to make the video good. Plus, why are there random horses and lions in the video? The backward suspenders also left me confused. Is this a trend?
17. Carrie Underwood- Church Bells:
I loved church bells by Carrie Underwood also. Another powerful song that told a story and the video didn’t mimic the strong story. However, I hope to see Carrie Underwood in concert someday after seeing this video I realize she puts on a fun show.
18. Dierks Bentley- Somewhere On A Beach:
Sure, Somewhere On A Beach was overplayed the first part of the year, but it’s still a catchy song. Plus the video is pretty amusing, and truthfully it makes me want to be on the beach with a drink in my hand and my toes in the sand.
19. Demi Lovato- Stone Cold:
I never realized how talented Demi is until this song. It’s a powerful ballad and one of my favorites all time songs.
20. The Weeknd featuring Daft Punk- Starboy:
This is currently my favorite song, it’s already overplayed, but it’s catchy, and I love the beats. Plus anything with Daft Punk is going to be something I enjoy.
So there are my top 20 songs of 2016, it was a hard choice and I’m sure I’m overlooking a song I loved. What were your favorite songs from 2016? Comment below!
