Songs of the week include artists Plain White T’s, Third Eye Blind, Simple Plan, Chain Smokers, and Meghan Trainor
I won’t lie; I haven’t listened to a lot of music this week due to being on vacation but was able to select a few songs that I’ve liked for a while for my “Songs of the Week.”
Plain White T’s- American Nights: Most people know Plain White T’s from their 2005 hit “Hey There Delilah” and while that song is okay they have better songs. A few months ago When I first heard American Nights for the first time, I thought “This should be the song of the summer.” It’s a catchy song, and I don’t know how someone can hear it and not be happy. I also love the music video and the kids in the video are stinking cute especially the one in the leather jacket. I doubt it will become the song of the summer, thanks to Justin Timberlake, but it’s still a great song that I’ve been listening to consistently for the past few months.
” I wanna drive all night,
Turn up the radio loud
Left hand in the breeze
I shut the whole world out.”
I love this lyric because this used to be one of my favorite things to do when I was in College. Driving around without a care in the world while blasting your favorite song was one of the best feelings and I kind of miss those days at times.
Third Eye Blind- 10 Days Late: So this is probably TMI, but this song has been stuck in my head for the past few days because like the song, I was ten days late. Once I started listening to the song, I forgot how much I love it and enjoy Third Eye Blind. They take me back to high school. They were also the first concert I was allowed to attend without adult supervision, so I think they will always hold a special place in my heart.
Curiosity got the best of me, and I stalked their website and apparently they still tour and have a new cd. I listened to one of the songs, “Get me out of here” and it’s okay but not on the same caliber as their older songs.
“Your eyes look to me for what to do
I can’t lie
I don’t know.”
This lyric would apply to my life if I were ever pregnant again. lol.
Simple Plan- Singing in the Rain: I used to love Simple Plan in High School and College, and I honestly didn’t realize they were still together as a band until I was driving and heard this song on Sirus XM. I love this song, and the song is different from most of their other music. While I’m listening to “Singing in the Rain” I feel like I should be sipping a fruity alcoholic beverage on a beach, which sounds amazing.
I listened to some of their newer songs, and it has the same Pop Punk sound from the early 2000’s which excited me. I will definitely have to tell my husband about the new Simple Plan music because he still loves Pop Punk music.
“There’s nothing in the world that’s gonna kill this mood
No matter what life wants to throw my way.”
Chainsmokers- Don’t Let Me Down: I have only a heard a few songs featuring Chainsmokers, and I love their beats. I don’t typically listen to DJ’s, but I feel as if Chainsmokers sound is unlike anything else I’ve heard recently which I appreciate. I also am not familiar with Daya besides the Hide Away song, but I love her voice. I can’t wait to hear more music by both artists!
Meghan Trainor- No: I love Megan Trainor and from the minute I listened to “No” I was addicted to it. It’s a catchy song, and always in my head.
I also have great memories tied to the song since we sang “No” at my friends Bachelorette party. We also sang fifth harmony’s, “Work from home” the day of the wedding. I love when songs hold special meaning and as silly as it is, this song will hold a special place since it was a great night celebrating my friend.
“My name is no
My sign is no
My number is no
You need to let it go.”
My daughter loves singing this song which is funny, but she only knows this main lyrics which is why they are my favorite!
What are your favorite songs of the week?
