Songs of the week include the latest by Twenty-One Pilots, Panic! At The Disco, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, and throwback songs from The Muse, and 311!
Twenty-One Pilots- Heathens:
A few weeks ago I was obsessed with song “Ride” by Twenty-One Pilots, but then a few days ago they released Heathens which is from their upcoming album called Suicide Squad which is being released in August. I love how chill this song is, and it once again sounds completely different than other songs they’ve released. I love how every song they manage to reinvent their sound. It’s rare to find a band with so much diversity, and I think it’s pretty impressive.
Panic! At The Disco- Don’t Threaten Me With A Good Time:
Confession, I love Panic! At The Disco and their latest cd, Death of a Bachelor is one of the catchiest albums of the year. I was excited when I discovered Don’t threaten me with a good time was a single. However, after watching the music video I’m perplexed by the video, it’s weird. I love the lead singer, Brandon Urie, but this video is among the oddest they’ve made. I don’t understand the octopus aspect of the video, and I always imagined the video in my head entirely different than this.
Luckily, I don’t judge songs based on their music videos.
Carrie Underwood- Church Bells:
First off, can we discuss how amazing Carrie Underwood is? She is stunning, has an amazing voice, and her style is always on point. In the least creepiest way possible, I want to be her.
I’ve seen church bells on the radio for a while and figured it was a slow song about getting married which didn’t appeal to me so I would immediately move to the next radio station. This week I finally listened to it and holy moly, why have I been skipping this song? It’s a powerful song about abuse. It would have been nice to see a video to this song instead of her in concert but watching the music video confirmed I need to see her in concert; it appears she puts on a great show.
Keith Urban- Wasted Time:
I used to love Keith Urban, but I feel like all of his music sounds the same, so I stopped listening to him. Then this week I heard “Wasted Time” and I enjoyed the song. Sure, it’s similar to his other songs, but it’s a fun song and perfect for Summer. I don’t know if I’ve announced a country song of the summer, but it should be Wasted Time.
I’ve always wanted to end up at a random lake in the middle of the summer having a bonfire, drinking, dancing, and having fun and this video captures exactly what I’ve always wanted to do. I don’t know when this would now happen in my life since I live in the desert where there is no lake, and it’d be way too hot to be dancing and drinking outside in the summer. lol. Regardless, this video is perfect for Summer and having fun!
It’s hard to believe this song is ten years old because I still love it today as much as I did ten years ago. I love The Muse; they’ve yet to make a song where I’m like WTF? and I find the lead singer, Matt Bellamy’s voice to be incredibly sexy for some reason. I have no idea why but I do. Starlight is probably my favorite Muse song.
311- Beautiful Disaster:
I don’t youtube often but when I do it’s always music. I always say I’m going to listen to this song and then get back to whatever I was doing. One song ALWAYS turns into an hour later, and I’m listening to some random song. Last night, I found out one of my favorite pop punk bands from high school reunited and I watched a random live show which then spiraled me into several pop punk concerts and eventually peaked with 311.
So let’s discuss 311, I’ve loved them since high school, and I will admit I haven’t listened to any of their newer music, but I’m sure I’d still enjoy it. I also found Nick Hexum, one of the singers in the band relatively attractive and I was happy to learn he’s aged wonderfully and is a father to three (I stalked his twitter, lol).
Beautiful Disaster was always one of my favorite mainstream songs of theirs and I considered naming my blog beautiful disaster because I’m kind of a hot mess at times in my life. Hearing this song and watching their concert live confirmed I should probably see them in concert again because they put on a good show.
I’d love to know what songs you are obsessed with this week!
