Songs of the week include tunes from Demi Lovato, Avril Lavigne, Angels and Airwaves, Katy Perry, Thomas Rhett, Chris Lane, and Jack Johnson
Welcome to another edition of my songs of the week. If you are new, welcome! Each week I pick songs that I’m currently enjoying. They could be new tunes, throwback, or something that’s been a while for a while.
This week I’ve selected some strong songs that will have something for everyone!
Demi Lovato- Stone Cold:
I faintly remember this song being released earlier this year but never paid attention to it. I love Demi; she’s an underrated artist who is crazy talented. Her vocal range can be heard in this ballad and boy does she have a strong voice. I love how her emotion can be heard in this song. I genuinely could feel her heartache in the song and anytime a song can strike an emotion out of me, it’s a worthy song in my book.
Avril Lavigne- Give You What You Like:
I may have already used this song, but I love this song. Initially, I thought this song was featured in Fifty Shades Of Grey, but it turns out someone spliced the video to this song with clips from the movie. It makes me want to see the film even though I thought the book was cheesy. I love Avril’s voice and in my opinion, she can’t make a bad song. I love how low key this song is, and it has a sexy vibe which I wouldn’t expect from her voice.
Angels and Airwaves- Breathe:
Recently, I’ve been choosing Blink182 tunes for the songs of the week. However, the new record, California is without founding member Tom Delonge. I have wondered what the cd would sound like with him in the band, as of now we will never know. However, I prefer Tom in his side gig Angels and Airwaves.
I heard Breathe this week, and I love this song. It’s a sweet song and shows how unique of a sound he brings to a band. It’s a cute love song which I can always appreciate.
Katy Perry- Rise:
I’m not sure that I love this song, it’s, unlike her other songs which I can appreciate it. However, I think I may only like this song for only two reasons.
- It’s the theme song for the Olympics
- It shows past Olympics which gets me excited for our upcoming Olympics starting in a few weeks.
Thomas Rhett- Die A Happy Man:
Confession, Thomas Rhett is my new favorite country male artist. His songs are catchy and lighthearted which I love. When I heard “Die A Happy Man” on the radio I thought “Oh great, a slow song.” Then I listened to the song, and I think the lyrics are cute. There are times I wish my husband wrote me love songs because I enjoy a love song and maybe I could finally learn how much he loves me, haha. I could see this becoming a first song dance at weddings.
Chris Lane- Fix:
I recently saw Chris Lane in concert, and I enjoyed him. I think he’s fairly attractive, and he did some great cover songs including Nsync’s “Bye Bye Bye” complete with choreography which was pretty amazing.
Fix is a catchy song, and I cant’ wait to hear more of his music.
Jack Johnson- Better Together
Jack Johnson is one of my favorite musicians and if you have the chance to see him in concert, jump on it. He puts on an incredible show. Better Together is in my top three favorite Jack Johnson songs; it’s another cute love song. I considered it for my husband and I’s first dance when we got married, but we thought it might be too upbeat for dancing. Hindsight it probably would have been fine.
I love how relaxing his music is; he is a fantastic lyricist, and his voice soothes my soul. Plus he’s a great person and spends his free time towards making our environment better. He has made documentaries, started a social community called All At Once which allows you to connect with your community to make it a better place. I love when an artist tries to make a positive difference in the world, and Jack Johnson is pretty incredible in those regards.
