If you love all types of music, this week is guaranteed to have something you will enjoy!
Welcome to another edition of Songs of the week. If you are new, welcome! Each week I pick songs that I’m currently enjoying. They could be new tunes, throwback, or something that’s been around for a while. It’s my chance to share my love of music with the interweb.
These past few weeks I haven’t listened to a ton of music which caused writers block but I’m back with a vengeance this week, and I’m all over the music spectrum with these selections!
Green Day- Bang Bang:
This is my favorite song right now. It’s high energy and reminds me why Green Day rocks after all these years! The song is written from the perspective of a mass shooter and discuss the culture of mass shootings which is interesting. I love how fast paced the song is, and there are glimpses of the song that remind me of Pennywise in regards to the high energy. However, most of the song reminds me of their song St Jimmy from American Idiot. If you are a Green Day fan, then you have to read this Rolling Stone article which catches up with Billie Jo Armstrong and discusses the upcoming album which I can’t wait to be released!
Avril Lavigne featuring Marilyn Manson- Bad Girl:
I’m pretty sure I’ve admitted my love for Avril Lavigne but if not, I love her music. I love the energy of this song and enjoy how this song is completely different than her other music. Bad Girl is edgy and upbeat and Marilyn Manson screaming in the background completes the song for me. I also find Avril and Marilyn Manson a unique duo, but I dig it. However, If I didn’t know this was Avril, I would have assumed it was a Pretty Reckless.
By the way, this song is not from Suicide Squad, but someone did a fantastic job mixing this song with clips from the video.
Lindsey Stirling featuring. Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness- Something Wild:
I have to start by saying this song is incredible. Like Avril Lavigne, Andrew McMahon is a musician I love. I’ve seen him more than any other artist, and he’s phenomenal. I also enjoy Lindsey Stirling and didn’t realize how badly these two artists needed to collaborate until I heard Something Wild. Andrew McMahon’s voice mixed with the violin is amazing, and I need these two artists to create an album together.
Skrillex & Rick Ross – Purple Lamborghini:
I will admit, this is not a song I would typically seek out but Skrillex is great, and I love the beat of this song. This song is featured in the movie Suicide Squad which I know nothing about except it has a strong soundtrack. The Joker in this video is Jared Leto, and he looks creepy! Plus, any song that randomly yells Rozay throughout the song is a hit in my book.
X Ambassadors featuring Tom Morello – Collider:
I enjoy X Ambassador because like Twenty-One Pilots, their sound is diverse which I love. For Collider, X Ambassadors features Tom Morello, who is the guitarist from Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave. I love the collaboration, and the beat of the song has a good vibe of Rage and Audioslave. I imagine if I was on drugs, this song could be trippy. However, this song is also a little sexy which I’m going to attribute to Tom Morello since I thought Audioslave’s was kind of sexy sounding.
Gretchen Wilson- Redneck Woman:
I used to love this song and while the only lyric in the song I can relate to is how I’m not a high-class broad” I kind of wish I had some Redneck girl tendencies like buying my underwear from Wal-Mart, taking a lifted truck in the mud, keeping my Christmas lights on my porch all year long, and saying words like yee-haw. This song is fun and makes me honestly miss living in the midwest where maybe I could pull off some of these redneck tendencies.
Nelly Furtado- Turn Off The Lights:
Whoah, Nelly came out when I was in high school, and I was obsessed with Nelly Furtado. I love how unique her voice is. I was slightly disappointed when she turned mainstream after her debut cd but still enjoyed her music. Turn off the lights was one of my favorite songs on the cd and the video is fun. It makes me want to dance in mud, wear bright clothes, and eat noodles.
What songs are you addicted to this week? I’d love to know!
