I will admit one of the songs I am currently addicted to is a shock for me. I also threw in some older songs which I’m currently loving, and this is extra long because I love talking about music.
Adele- Send My Love (To Your New Lover): I can honestly say I’ve never been an Adele fan. I think she is talented, but her songs are not my style. Today, while driving I heard “Send My Love (To Your New Lover) and honestly thought it was M.I.A. since it immediately reminded me of Paper Planes. Once I discovered it was Adele, I was surprised. This song is unlike any of her other songs, at least from what I’ve heard, which isn’t much. I find the lyrics interested because it speaks volumes of forgiveness and moving on after a relationship. Thankfully, it’s something I’ve never had to do, but I can imagine it would be hard to be the mature one in a situation like that.
Favorite Lyric: “Send my love to your new lover, treat her better” The whole story to this song intrigues me but I appreciate the honesty and forgiveness in the song.
Andrew McMahon- High Dive: Most people are now learning about the greatness of Andrew McMahon, but I’ve been a fan of his for 16 years or half of my life, which sounds crazy! If you were ever into the Pop Punk Scene, you might know him from Something Corporate or Jack’s Mannequin. He’s had success with his past bands but has catapulted with his latest band, Andrew McMahon and the Wilderness and the release of the song”Cecilia and the Satellite.” He is incredibly talented, and I’m so proud of his newfound success.
I’m sure everyone has that one celebrity or musician who’s career you’ve followed and are excited by their success, and that’s how I feel about Andrew McMahon. He’s endured so much in his career, including leukemia in his early 20’s. I had the privilege to see him perform after he went into remission and it still gives me chills seeing him in such a fragile state and playing for the fans, incredible.
I seriously love his music, and he is one of the few artists I will support and buy an actual cd. When his self-titled album released in 2014, I bought it and instantly was drawn to High Dive. The song is catchy, and the lyrics are great. When I heard the song I could picture what the music video would look like and of course, my vision was completely different than the video. Regardless, the song is pretty great and probably my favorite off the cd.
Favorite Lyric: I don’t have a favorite lyric to this song since it tells a story, no verse stands out to me.
Dierks Bentley- Black: Anyone who knows me, know I love Dierks Bentley. He has been one of my favorite country singers since he first came to the country scene. He is someone I’d like to hang out with, he has a great personality, a great smile, and is sexy! I wouldn’t classify his sound as classic country, but his songs are catchy. On May 25th, his newest cd “Black” will be released and the first song off the album is, Black. The first time I heard this song I was hooked. While I’m not the type who flocks to slow songs, the main chorus is catchy and to be completely honest, he could sing about anything, and I would probably like it. He’s an amazing artist, and I’m so excited for new music. Hopefully, this also means a new tour.
Favorite Lyric: “I don’t wanna see a thing, baby I just wanna feel your touch, feel your rush,
I don’t wanna see a thing; I just wanna feel your love.” Whoever, he is singing about is pretty darn lucky!
Lizotomania- Phoenix: Apparently, this song has been around since 2009, but I’m just learning about it. I considered myself pretty musically savvy, so I’m always curious how I miss songs like I did with this one. I find this song to be super catchy, and I have no idea what lizotomania means, but I think the song is about a stripper or prostitute, interesting, maybe her name is Liz?
Favorite Lyric: “From a mess to the masses.”
Ghengis Khan- Mike Snow: This song is catchy, and the video is weird, the main character in the video who might be Mike Snow (no clue), has a gold nose which makes no sense. Apparently, this video is supposed to be a spoof on James Bond. I like the lyrics as it tells the story of a guy who may be having feelings about his sex buddy and is jealous because he doesn’t want the girl but doesn’t want anyone else to have her either. I’m sure lots of people can relate to the lyrics.
Favorite Lyric: “Cause I don’t want really want you girl, but you can’t be free cause I’m selfish, I’m obscene.” I appreciate the honesty in the lyrics even if it sucks to be that girl.
Awolnation- Woman, Woman– I’ve just recently started getting into Awolnation and I’m bummed I didn’t have the chance to see them open for Fall Out Boy because I heard they are fantastic in concert. I can appreciate a band with a little screaming in it (hello, Finch!) but this song is great, especially the more you listen to it. The beat kind of it reminds me or something from the 80’s, and I love the music video.
Favorite Lyric: “I may be worthless without you” No reason why this my favorite lyric, I’d like to think it’s because most guys are useless without their lady, jk!
What do you make of these songs and what are you listening to this week? I’d love to know!
