This week my favorite songs are from a variety of artists such as Blink182, Daya, Ariana Grande, and more…
Welcome to my favorite section of my blog, my favorite songs of the week! This week I’ve got a fun mix of songs for you which I hope you will enjoy. We will dig into Daya’s new song, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Blink182, and I’ll be introducing a throwback song for Flashback Friday! I’m so excited to share these songs with you so let’s dive in.
Daya- Sit still look pretty: A few weeks ago I mentioned how I loved Daya’s voice and this week I was introduced to “Sit still look pretty” and my love affair with her voice continues. Her voice is unique, and her songs are catchy. The song may have some synthesizers on her voice, but I don’t hate it. I love a song with meaning in the lyrics, and the message of this song is strong. I believe she is more than just a pretty face. Related, the minute I saw the name of the song, it reminded me of The Wreckers song, “Stand Still, Look Pretty.”
Favorite Lyric: “But this gal right here’s gonna rule the world.”
Ariana Grande – Dangerous Woman: I have always enjoyed Ariana Grande and her songs because they are catchy. I had no intention of including this song on my list, but I think I was in denial about my love for this song. The truth is, I find the beat and Ariana’s voice to be incredibly sexy. Plus, have you seen this video? With lyric’s like “All that you got, skin to skin, oh my God, Don’t ya stop, boy” I can’t help but find the song sexy. I honestly think there is a dangerous woman in all of us, and maybe this is the anthem for us to bring out our dangerous side.
Favorite Lyric: “Nothing to prove and I’m bulletproof and know what I’m doing.”
Justin Bieber- Company: First off, I was never a JB fan until his most recent cd, and every song is incredible. Company is no exception and is going to be another hit because of the catchy lyrics and beat. Most of my commentary is about the video.
It’s a fun video seeing Justin hang out with his friends and having fun, but the real question is, “What is up with his hair?” I don’t understand this new style guys have. Another celebrity who sports a similar look is Zac Efron. He is way too attractive to have bad hair. Click here to see a side by side of Justin Bieber and Zac Efron’s awful hair.
Favorite Lyric: Let’s set each other’s lonely nights, Be each other’s paradise.”
Blink182- Bored to death: I know last week I added Blink182 to my throwback list, but they are still relevant in my music world. They took a hiatus and ditched Tom Delonge, who is a little crazy and has a whiny voice. They’ve since added Mike Skiba of Alkaline Trio, which excited my husband, and they are back with new music.
As I mentioned last week, I’ve always loved Mark Hoppus and prefer him as the lead singer. From what I’ve heard of the new cd, Mike Skiba is a great addition to the band, and I have no gripes so far. Are the songs off the new cd going to be similar to Dude Ranch or Cheshire Cat? Probably not, but they are a nostalgia band for me so unless they get awful, I will always be excited to hear new music.
This song is slower, and I prefer my Blink tunes to be more along the lines of Josie, but I’m glad they are back, and I still enjoy the song and can’t wait to hear the rest of the cd.
Favorite Lyric: “So let me buy you a drink
And we’ll pretend that you think
That I’m the man of your dreams.”
Flashback Friday Song: A new feature, where I will flash us back to a great song from the past.
Sugar Ray- Every Morning: I felt this was the perfect band to kick off Flashback Friday! In the late 90’s and early 2000’s Sugar Ray dominated the airwaves with their catchy pop melodies. They had all the qualities that make a great band. Catchy Lyrics? Check, Amusing music videos? Check, Attractive and funny lead singer? Check, and songs that dominate the radio? Check. I always loved when a new Sugar Ray song came out, but then it’d get overplayed, and I’d be over it.
I debated between Every Morning and Fly and ultimately decided it was more important to show the cheesiness of their music videos. I felt most girls loved Mark Mcgrath, and there was a lot to love about him since he seemed like a musician who was out there to have a fun time and make catchy songs.
Favorite Lyric: “Once again as predicted left my broken heart open, and you ripped it out.”
What song are you currently obssessed with? I’d love to hear! Have a wonderful weekend!
