Let me disclaim this post that I’m VERY passionate about my Political beliefs and if you oppose that’s fine but I’m not here to fight, and I won’t respond.
On Friday Donald Trump became our 45th President and 48 hours into his Presidency I would rate his Presidency less than stellar. Instead of focusing on issues he’s too busy calling out the media liars because they downplayed how many people attended his inauguration. Find me somebody who is struggling in day to day life that gives two shits about how many people were at his inauguration. People react based on what a President does, and so far he’s created “Alternative Facts” which isn’t a thing. There is either the truth, or there is a lie, there is no alternative situation. The great thing about our nation is we can agree to disagree, at least for now. Okay, first rant over!
The positive out of this whole shit show is that it’s brought our country together in regards to human decency. I’m not sure why that wasn’t enough to win the election but that’s in the past, and we can’t change it. I’ve read about people who voted for Trump and already have buyers remorse, as they should. So far his actions have not reflected his campaign, which I’m not sure if that’s good or bad, except repealing the Affordable Care Act. Sadly, people did not realize there was a difference between Obama Care and The Affordable Care Act.
This is me typing away, but I feel there should be a basic test put into place to vote. An example test question
Yes or No- Obama Care and Affordable Care Act are the same thing?
I think part of the reason Donald Trump won is people were not educated enough or disliked Hillary Clinton so much they didn’t care who became president as long as it wasn’t her. Second rant over.
As I was saying, I love seeing how a Trump Presidency has brought the nation closer since we are now fighting for our rights. Yesterday, was amazing watching all the marches across the country, and the world.
Originally I was going to be out of town this weekend, and my plans were canceled last minute due to the weather here and in San Diego, so it didn’t occur to me to attend the March until it was already happening. Talk about a missed opportunity. I hope I’m able to participate in a future rally because if you oppose our current President and his administration, the last thing we should be doing right now is sitting around and doing nothing. And if you don’t care about Politics this is one time in life you need to be educated. Please make your voice heard or you can’t be mad when something is implemented that affects you negatively.
Anyways, all that being said the theme for this week are some of my favorite Political Bands and Songs. My hope is with the current chaos our country may endure it will inspire musicians as it did during the Bush years.
By the way, if you are offended by the word “Fuck” you probably should skip these songs.
Green Day: Troubled Times
This is the latest song from Green Day, and the video was released January 17th, which is interesting timing with Martin Luther King day being the day before and Donald Trump becoming President a few days later. The lyrics are simple, but the video is compelling showing various parts of our history. Sadly, we may live in troubled times.
Rise Against: Prayer Of The Refugee
This is one of my favorite songs of all time, and you can’t necessarily tell in this song, but the lead singer has two different color eyes. Rise Against is one of my favorite political bands because they bring to light a range of topics not necessarily just political. They discussion economic, environmental, and social issues that affect our world.
Rage Against The Machine: Killing In The Name
If you are pissed off about what is happening in the Unites States with our newly elected President, listening to Rage Against The Machine will pump you up. Plus I like “Fuck You, I won’t do what you tell me.”
Anti-Flag: Press Corpse
Anti-Flag is another political band I love, and this is also one of my favorite songs. Sadly, the songs they wrote during the Bush Presidency already seem to apply to the Trump presidency like
“The White House Press Corpse only has one thing to say…
We don’t want to talk about it!”
Pennywise: Fuck Authority
Sure the song says Fuck a lot, but the lyrics are powerful. Now more than ever we need to fight for our rights, so they aren’t taken from us.
“You know the time is right to take control,
we gotta take offense against the status quo
No way, not gonna stand for it today, fight for your rights,
it’s time we had our say.”
Sum41: Still Waiting
I don’t think enough credit is given to Sum41 for the depth of their lyrics. I always think of the fun pop punk songs they had back in 2001, but the truth is they have a lot of raw music, and the lyrics to Still Waiting is one of those songs. The main chorus of this song is all too relatable these days.
“So am I still waiting
For this world to stop hating
Can’t find a good reason
Can’t find hope to believe in.”
NOFX: The Idiots Are Taking Over-
The title of the song says it all sadly.
U2- Bloody Sunday
A bit of a throwback but I feel like whenever you discuss a Political Movement you have to throw Bono’s name into the conversation.
Rise Against: Ready to Fall
Truthfully, this video is tough to watch because it covers a variety of topics such as animal treatment and global warming to name a few but the jidst of this song is that we are reaching our breaking point by our actions.
There are a lot of Political Bands I didn’t include, but I went off songs I knew I loved off the top of my head. Other bands, you can check out Bruce Springsteen, The Clash, Dead Kenndy’s, Propghandi, Sex Pistols, and Bad Religion to name a few.
If you have any suggestions on songs, I should check out, please let me know!
