If you have 24 hours in Austin these are the places you need to check out!
When we visited San Antonio a few months ago, I knew we had to visit Austin. I’ve heard so many great things about the city and needed to check it out for myself. Like San Antonio, I wanted to see as much as I could since I may never return. Unfortunately, Austin was somewhat of a fail for us when we visited, nothing went our way!
I had my plan of what I wanted to see, but the weather, an awful hotel, and bats made this trip less than perfect.
The weather in Texas was brutal the whole time we visited. I like rain but rain brings humidity, and it was HUMID which meant we were sweaty, cranky, and my hair was a hot mess.
I wish we had more time in Austin, but we had under 24 hours before we had to catch our flight back to Arizona, so I knew we had to be efficient with our time. I planned everything out on what I wanted to see.
Our first stop was the hotel, and it was a fail. I named my own price on Priceline and got a smoking good deal for a three-star hotel. Since I wasn’t familiar with Austin, I figured it was worth the risk to save money on a hotel. My complaint with our hotel was I could hear everything and we were on the first floor which had a sliding glass door which caused meltdowns between my daughter and I since she wanted to be outside. The larger issue was the bugs. My husband and daughter shared a bed, and they got bit up during the night, and not a few bites either my daughter’s whole leg was bitten up. The next morning we killed a few bugs in our room as well, and the front desk offered to get us coffee to go as an apology. I don’t know what the resolution to this hotel situation would have been, but coffee was not the answer.
Luckily for me, I don’t let a small hotel situation ruin my trip. After we had checked into the hotel, we were hungry, and since Austin is known for food, I knew I needed to go big or go home with my food selections. My criteria was the food needed to taste good and be kid friendly. Our first stop for food was Hat Creek Burger Company. I picked the worst location to visit because Google gave the address to their corporate office instead of the restaurant which added an extra 45 minutes while we tried to find the place. Just when we were about to call it a day and select somewhere else, I saw the eatery and hoped the food was worth the extra time trying to find it.
